Film - KCDM


Established in 2018, Film and Photography is a unit of King Cetshwayo District Municipality’s Planning and Economic Development department, responsible for the promotion and development of the Film and Photography Industry within King Cetshwayo District.

The unit was established in order to achieve the following goals:

  • Market and promote King Cetshwayo as a district by showcasing film locations found within the district.
  • Develop the film industry through Industry Skills Development initiatives
  • Facilitate the film permitting process in consultation with the family of 5 local municipalities, namely: City of uMhlathuze, uMlalazi, uMfolozi, Mthonjaneni and Nkandla.

Primary objectives of the above goals are to:

  • Attract investment opportunities in the film industry of the district
  • Encourage the provision of opportunities for filmmakers within the district who are from previously disadvantaged communities and support active participation in the industry
  • Promote and market the district as the ultimate film destination for film production
  • Address historical imbalances in the infrastructure and in the distribution of skills and resources in the film industry within the district.
  • Create an enabling environment for job creation in the film industry within the district.
  • Implement interventions that support transformation, diversification and service excellence in the film industry
  • Develop in-house capabilities and skills in order to provide world class quality service to clients

Located approximately 180 km`s north east of Durban and 465 km`s south of Maputo in Mozambique on the eastern coastline.
