FILM

The Zululand Coast which is “The Heart and Pulse of the Zulu Kingdom” has a Film sector which is primarily divided in three main components, namely:
• Marketing and Promotion of Zululand Coast
• Film Industry Skills Development
• Film Industry Servicing

The Marketing and Promotion component aims to place Zululand Coast on the map by attracting Film productions to the area through Location Exhibitions at Film Markets, attendance to Film Festivals and Film Industry Networking sessions. This component positions Zululand Coast as “The Ultimate Film Friendly Destination” by creating an awareness of diverse locations that exist, excellent infrastructure and structured systems designed for the servicing of the Film industry

The Film Industry Skills Development component includes training programmes conducted in collaboration and in partnership with film industry stakeholders. These programmes include a Schools Programme, Short Training Programmes, Learnership Programme, SMME Women and Youth Incubation Programme and Film Industry Transformation Initiative Programme. Training enables established and emerging Filmmakers to be developed as businesses and/or self-sustainable entrepreneurs.

The Servicing component strategically acts as a “one-stop-shop” which deals with issuing of Film Permits and assisting Film Production companies to obtain film guidance, advice, assistance and available scouts trained to assist with location scouting. This component manages the filming approval process on behalf of respective authorities and stakeholders; facilitation between film production companies, local government and local communities. This component also entails maintaining effective communication between national and provincial departments, filming agencies, private landowners, business, tourists and residents of affected areas in order to support filming activities and to encourage film production companies to operate in an environmentally sound and sustainable manner.
